I started making ceramics in 2022. I make ceramic figurines and sculptures of various shapes and sizes. Anthropomorphized Bugs, food items and animals, happy mutated humanoid blobs and their friends. Playing with the theme of Kawaii cuteness - the appeal of a shy, childlike and innocent character. I keep adding new pieces here so newer pieces will come first and as you scroll down you can see my whole body of work.

In summer of 2024 I have started trying out a different clay - with heavy grain texture to make bigger pieces with. I recreated a sculpture group “Mammals” in a smaller version. They will be shown in a group exhibition in Japan in November.

Mammals“ is a two part sculpture piece of my Monkey-Lama characters. The two smaller ones are happily humping each other while the big one is watching with a neutral expression. He’s not sure how to feel about this revealing display. Does it make him sad because he’s lonely? Or happy because he’s single and free?

In 2024 I have started to explore how I can connect digital 3D and ceramics. I have made a 3D shader that mimics the specific look my ceramics have after firing which turned out quite good! It combines two materials, one rough and one “glazed” - the way it would be on a ceramic figurine. There are dust speckles on the surface, like dust would settle on a real ceramic and tiny cracks in the surface.

I also used digital 3D to visualize potential sculptures that I want to build - sort of like a digital sketch book. This is really helpful to work out how a shape can look from different angles and to then decide how to construct it.

I then transferred the animation of the character walking onto a sequence of ceramic figurines - which did work ok but was way more difficult than the other way around. I broke the walkcycle down to 8 phases and made 8 sculptures which together form the walk. It would be more legible if i had glazed them all with the same colour. But that’s boring :)

These little guys are a staple and I love making them! They’re skaterblobs!

I often sell my pieces on maker markets like the DIY art market in London. Little sausages are very popular!

In spring 2023 I decided to make bigger pieces! All of these are around 30cm in height.

Big boi wearing jeans went to BINGO - a group exhibition at Aire Space Gallery Leeds and was sold there. I hope he found a great home!

The winter 2023 batch of small figurines leans a bit more into a 90s theme. With magic mushrooms, 90s dreambois and aliens.

I experimented with making a really tiny ones as well.

Tiny Grumpyfant went to the group exhibition "Tiny" at Aire Space Gallery Leeds in December 2023

Spring batch of 2023. All of them were sold, making people from all over the world happy owners of ceramic cuteness!

The winter batch of 2022. They were all sold at DIY art market London and brighten up peoples homes all over the world!

This is the first batch of ceramics I ever made in summer 2022.

They all were exhibited at the 2022 character walk exhibition during the Pictoplasma festival at Neurotitan gallery in Berlin. They're all sold and live all over the world now!
